Fall 10×10: Week Two

After a week ‘intermission’ to participate in the dress up days for Homecoming week at school, I’m back in the Fall 10×10 hosted by Lee (from Style Bee). Here’s a look at the 8 items I chose (I’m not counting shoes this round, so I selected fewer items) and the first 5 looks I wore.

Look 6

When paired with a trouser jeans and a scarf, this sweatshirt becomes more work appropriate. The top is a cropped length, which I like with the wide leg pants. I’m not a huge scarf person, but I like to keep this old one to wear every so often.

Look 7

Finding a top that layers well over a dress can be tricky. I find that getting the proportions right can be hard. If the top is too long, it seems to overwhelm my short figure and feel frumpy. If it’s too tight, the dress can get caught up in it and start riding up. And, if it falls across my hips I think it makes me look wider than I’d like. I am excited to have found this sweatshirt is juuuust right (said in my best Goldilocks storytelling voice). It gives me a more casual way to wear this silk dress for work or mom duty. I was concerned that I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing silk for more ‘everyday’ looks, but add some Adidas and a backpack and it’s a simple, pulled together weekend outfit.

Look 8

This white top is the simplest piece, but I LOVE wearing it. For work this week, I paired it with my trouser jeans and some simple accessories. I normally prefer cropped or tucked in tops with these wide leg pants, but I feel like this look is working. Maybe it’s the easy drape of the top or the contrast between dark and light? Either way, I’m happy to have found another go-to outfit that I can throw on (and feel great in) when I’m feeling uninspired.

Look 9

This is my favorite color palette for fall. The olive tee feels like fall (but is cool enough in our unseasonably warm weather) and the cognac jacket and clogs add warmth to the outfit.

Look 10

My final look of the 10×10 is a simple layered look for the varying fall temperatures. I like the medium weight of this striped top as an alternative to a sweater or sweatshirt and how the longer tee adds length and interest when worn underneath.  These jeans had been on the chopping block until my friend, Andrea, inspired me to undo the hem for a DIY raw-hem look. I like the little bit of extra length and the updated look.style-bee-10x10-look-10_2 style-bee-10x10-look-10_1

Overall, I have loved this 10×10 and it has felt like the easiest one I’ve done yet. I don’t think I’ve gotten as creative with finding new layering options as I had hoped, but I’m blaming the warm weather for that. In a few days I will be posting all 10 looks with my favorites, why, and what takeaways I have from this recent closet challenge.
How did your 10×10 go?

    1. I LOVE what you did to the hem of those jeans. Was it as simple as pulling out seams?

      1. Lo,
Yes! I just used a seam ripper to take out the bottom hem and they looked like this. It was just the ‘refresh’ my old skinnies needed. Let me know if you try it!
