Simple Fourth of July Outfits (Using What You Already Own)

I’ve seen a lot of posts showing all the latest red, white, and blue styles available in stores and it got me thinking about how I was going to create a festive look from my summer capsule wardrobe. I wanted to share a quick look at some options I came up with, because I’m pretty excited about them!

We have a super casual BBQ, the kids run around with their friends, and then we pull our folding chairs into the driveway to watch the fireworks (lucky for us they’re set off in the open space across from our neighborhood).

Step 1: Grab some denim and a white top.

Depending on the weather I will wear my denim cutoffs or boyfriend jeans and either a white tee or tank. I will also add my star-print chambray (so festive, right??!!) as a layering piece. I figure most

Other options:
  • Chambray dress, romper, or jumpsuit
  • Blue top and white bottoms
  • Jeans and a chambray top
  • Denim with a navy and white striped top

Step 2: Add casual footwear.

I knew I had these star and stripe flip flops from a few summers ago that I typically only wear around the Fourth of July. Another option is a pair of white Converse.

Step 3: Finish the look with a pop of red.

To complete your look, find some pops of red. I found a hat that could work, my red diaper bag (Lily Jade), and a red bracelet I typically only wear during winter. I also raided my boys’ room and found a red bandana that I could wear as a headband, head wrap, bracelet, or even go out on a limb and try the newest trend and wear the bandana around my neck.

Other Options:
  • A red statement necklace
  • Red manicure and pedicure
  • Use a red ribbon as a belt, bracelet, or bow
  • Red baseball cap
  • Red cardigan or shirt tied around your shoulders or waist
  • Red sunglasses

It’s so easy to feel that every occasion requires a new addition to your closet (believe me, I’ve done it a million times), but in an effort to keep my wardrobe lean and be a more conscious consumer I’m looking for more ways to make use of what I already own.

What are your plans for the holiday weekend? I hope it’s a great one! xo
