Summer 10×10: The First Few Looks

Well, I made it 48 hours into the Summer 10×10 Style Challenge before I had to make a swap. The 10 day forecast shows exactly zero days less than 92 degrees, so I decided the denim crops were a no-go. I had included them with hopes of adding some variety to the looks, but I also need to be realistic about my day-to-day activities and the weather. Sunday morning I needed something to wear around the house and my linen shorts were dirty, so I went for the denim cutoffs…I just can’t seem to tear myself away. 😉 Soon enough we’ll be heading into three seasons of pant-wearing, so I’m embracing the summer wardrobe.

Here’s a look at the first few looks I’ve worn from my mini-capsule over the weekend.

Outfit 1:

I think this outfit will see more than one turn in the 10 day challenge, especially for daytime mom-duty. Nothing fancy, nothing too creative, but it works for me. I wore this Saturday to run errands and do birthday party drop off, return to birthday party with swimsuit and towel (mom brain), and birthday party pickup.

Outfit 2:

Sunday night my husband and I got a babysitter and went out for a few hours on a long overdue date night. We drank beer, played ping pong, and had dinner sitting at the bar, where we talked about parenting struggles and kitchen remodels and all that romantic stuff. 😉

I wore this tank dress from Imby, which is literally the softest thing I’ve ever worn. I added a few accessories and off we went (nothing says going out sans kids like a clutch, am I right?!)

Outfit 3:

I have worn this Brass maxi dress twice since posting my 10 pieces on Friday – both times for entertaining at our home. Friday night we had family over for Brynn’s 1st birthday party and Monday night some friends came over for dinner and s’mores by the firepit and this dress was the quickest way to get ready before guests arrived. It’s comfortable, machine-washable (important at a 1st birthday party), and so flattering. In my true laid back summer style, makeup is at a minimum, no jewelry, no fuss.brass maxi dress 3 brass maxi dress 1

I’m so excited to see few women have jumped in and joined Andrea and I in the challenge – check #summer10x10 on Instagram for inspiration. It’s not too late, pick 10 items and put what you already own to work.

    1. I love your outfits! I revamped my 10 pieces also, with highs of 81 (Seattle weather). A simple wardrobe makes the hottest days a bit more bearable!

      Cheers! 🙂

      1. Thank you, B! I think I was trying to pick more items that I thought would look good on the blog and not what would actually work. Glad I straightened myself out early on! How has it been going for you?

    1. Every time I see that black maxi dress on your I really, really want it! You look so gorgeous in it. I love how you said you could wear it so simply (sans makeup and accessories) and still feel good in it. That’s awesome! You know you’ve chosen wisely when…

And you already know how much I like that gray dress. Ping pong and beer sounds so fun! Take me back to college!

      1. Yes, the black maxi dress was an excellent addition! I love wearing it – I feel so pulled together, thinner than I am, and like my boobs look great! 🙂

    1. Cute! And I may have to check that tank out…. On the tank.. how are the arm holes? Need a tank under it to cover the unmentionables? lol

      1. The tank top arm holes work really well for me. I have the problem a lot where the size I need shows some of my bra, but not this one. I got a M for reference. I’m not sure they still have the stripe print, but I know the style is still available.
