Summer Essentials: Maxi Dress

Since I’m taking a more relaxed approach to my wardrobe this summer and haven’t put together a capsule to show you, I thought I would share with you some of my key pieces for summer instead. I’ve added four new pieces for summer to complete my wardrobe. It was interesting going through my summer clothing since last summer I was in the final weeks of pregnancy and early postpartum, so I didn’t wear any “regular” clothes. I found a lot of my items either didn’t fit well enough to be comfortable or didn’t fit my style any longer.

One of my new closet additions this summer is the Tank Maxi Dress from Brass Clothing. I fell in love with this dress after seeing it on Instagram about a year ago, but because I was breastfeeding/pumping I held off on buying it until it was more practical. Now that Brynn is nursing less frequently and I will no longer be pumping at work (mini celebration over here!), I figured it would be a great addition to my summer wardrobe.

Any dress with pockets is a winner in my book, but especially when it’s a maxi dress. It is also machine-washable which is another necessity for me. It’s a good thing because the first time I wore it, my grabby 10 month old pulled an entire plate of tacos onto my lap at dinner 🙂

This week I threw on the dress sans jewelry for a family field trip to Boulder and added a denim jacket the next day to wear to a technology in the classroom seminar. This dress is a perfect addition to my closet because it is versatile, effortless to wear, and Brass is an ethical company, so it fits everything I’m striving for in my wardrobe. It feels great to add an item I know was responsibly made and that I will get a ton of wears out of.

I am 5’2” and around 140 lbs. I ordered the medium, which is a great fit, besides the length. I hemmed the dress myself, but Brass will apply a $15 to a future purchase if you need to get any item tailored, which is pretty dang cool.

This will be my go-to dress this summer, but I look forward to finding ways to style it to keep in my wardrobe year-round. I plan to share the rest of my core summer wardrobe soon, including the other new additions I chose to make. Plus, I’m excited to share my thoughts on my wardrobe moving forward, which is something that’s been on my mind a lot.

What are you must-have, go-to, love to wear summer clothing items?

note: I was able to buy this dress at a discounted price as a brand ambassador for Brass Clothing
