It’s interesting to think how each summer the dynamic of our family is different as kids’ ages and interests change. Something I’ve been working on is to enjoy right where we’re at because it will never be like this again. I want to make sure I’m taking in the moments with my family and really being present. I have a tendency to sign on for too many things during the school year, so I’m trying to take the summer to slow down (in a way, declutter my life). I need to limit my distractions and the ongoing to-do list in my head. To do that I’m giving myself permission to slow down my online presence for the summer, to take a more laid back approach.
I do a lot of my “work” early in the mornings, during naptime, or after bedtime (sleeping kids is key to getting things done!). During those times I work on my decluttering project, squeeze in workouts, and write blog posts. But I also want to be able to watch Netflix with my husband or enjoy a drink by our fire pit or read a book. So, what I’m saying is there will be fewer Instagram posts and I may not post on the blog as regularly, but I hope you’ll understand and stick around. 😉
Now, onto another of my summer essentials…
One thing that makes summer style hard for me is the heat takes away the layering option, which I feel can leave my outfits looking a bit boring. To fix that I look for tops that can make a statement on their own and I think peplum is my favorite way to do that. This was a quick and easy look for a last-minute breakfast with a friend from high school who was in town for work.
Peplum is so popular right now on everything from tops to dresses to swimsuits and I totally see why. It is a very flattering cut and a way to elevate the style on a basic piece. I also am loving the off-the-shoulder trend and strappy bralettes under plain tees and tanks this summer.
My top is a few years old from Old Navy, but I love this one from H&M Conscious and here’s an ethical option with short sleeves that would be great for work (and it’s on super sale). Last, this page has some Made in USA options in prints, solids, lace, and other great styles.
