Winter Capsule Outfits: Week 1

In an effort to take some time time away from my computer and phone during the holiday, I took a more relaxed approach to my outfit post this round. All that really means is that I’m using some mirror outfit selfies (and some in horrible lighting) because they’re a million times quicker and easier to take. 🙂

I also changed up a little bit of my outfit ‘analysis’. A couple of weeks ago my friend, Andrea, sent me a link to this post about personal style and one idea really stuck with me.

In the event you’re trying to find you: I propose this: think about when you feel like the best and most comfortable version of yourself. What clothes propel that notion? Put them on, leave home, ask yourself if you wish you were wearing something else. If you do, what is that?

– Leandra Medine for Man Repeller

So, I started asking myself that question each day. If you’ve been working on identifying your personal style or how to decide what items to purge I highly recommend the article. It gave me quite a bit to think about.

Here are 4 days of work outfits and a few outfits from our holiday week.

the items

Checkered T Sweater (c/o Jamie and the Jones): size medium

Black denim (Everlane): sized down 1 for more fitted look

Clogs (Lotta From Stockholm)

would I rather be wearing something else?

Absolutely not. I love this outfit.

the items

Sweater (secondhand Everlane, this year’s version): size medium

Pants (Everlane)

Clogs (Lotta From Stockholm)

would I rather be wearing something else?

The only change I would make to this outfit is to swap out the wide leg pants for either black or blue jeans. I like wearing these pants, but I feel more ‘at home’ in straight-leg bottoms. However, I don’t think that’s necessarily means I need to stop wearing these pants because it’s still fun to push myself outside of my comfort zone. Especially when I pair them with items that I’m more comfortable wearing.

Do you spot the mischievous 2-year-old who proceeded to make 1376 trips back and forth to her room dropping off one item at a time in our room?

the items

T Top (Jamie and the Jones): size small

Jeans (secondhand Madewell): true to size

Shoes (secondhand from Poshmark)

Necklace (c/o Natalie Borton): get 10% off with code PAIGE10

would I rather be wearing something else?

I’d rather be wearing my clogs. In an effort to change things up I chose these leopard flats that I don’t wear often. I don’t dislike it, but I know I would have liked it more with different footwear.

the items

Heavyweight T Sweater (Jamie and the Jones)

Ponte pants (Brass Clothing): size small (I’m a 6)

Boots (Sam Edelman): true to size

would I rather be wearing something else?

Heck, no. This is one of my favorite outfits from last winter that still tops the list.

Christmas Eve

the items

T Top (Jamie + the Jones) / size small

Black jeans (Everlane) / Modern boyfriend fit sized down one for a straight-leg fit

Shoes (c/o Everlane) / full review here

would I rather be wearing something else?

No. This outfit was comfortable and just festive enough for a family gathering. I chose the T Top over a sweater because it can get warm with the oven on, extra bodies gathering, and wine flowing. It was fun to see Andrea‘s version of these same items for her Christmas Day outfit!

Christmas Day

the items

Cashmere sweater (Christmas gift from my mom, Everlane) / size small, my other Everlane sweaters are medium. I decided to keep the small for a more fitted style since my other sweaters a bit looser. My only concern with the small is that the arms are more snug and I worry that the sweater won’t breathe as much when I get warm.

Jeans (Madewell via Poshmark) / true to size

Phone case (c/o Caseapp) / get 20% off with code STYLETHISLIFE20 until January 15, 2018.

would I rather be wearing something else?

No. We spend Christmas Day having brunch at my in-laws, so my goal was simple, comfortable, warm, and festive. This outfit checked all of those boxes. Though, after a full day of eating, my stretchy leggings were sounding pretty darn good.

Haircut + Dinner Theatre

the items

Oversized sweater (c/o Vetta Capsule) / this sweater is sold out, but get 10% off your order of any of the other items with code STYLETHISLIFE

Pants (Brass Clothing) / size small

Boots (Nisolo) / true to size, but a bit narrow

would I rather be wearing something else?

Not really. I usually ‘reserve’ this type of outfit for work, but pushed myself out of my comfort zone and wore it for a haircut and a couple of errands. This outfit is just as comfortable as the leggings and sweatshirts I’d hung out in all the previous day, but I mentally felt a little out of place. I try to buy items that work for both home and work, but I definitely have a few things that I have designated at work clothes, including these ponte pants.  I’m not sure why because they truly are as comfortable as my loungewear, but my instinct is to choose jeans for weekend wear.

I repeated this outfit the next day when my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and I took Liv an my niece to see Annie at the local dinner theatre, which felt more ‘appropriate’. The outfit felt great and I love this combination, but it seems I have a bit of a mental block to break through to make this outfit feel more casual.

New Years Eve

the items

Checkered T Sweater (c/o Jamie and the Jones): size medium

Jeans (Madewell via Poshmark) / true to size

Boots (Sam Edelman): true to size

Necklace (c/o Natalie Borton): get 10% off with code PAIGE10

would I rather be wearing something else?

No. One reason I love my T Sweaters so much is that I have never worn them and been anything less that 100% in love with the look. Whether it’s ponte pants, over a dress, black denim,or jeans…the sweater always pulls the outfit together and makes it an instant favorite in my book.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are settling into 2018. I always get excited at the prospect of a ‘fresh’ start, but this year I always want to focus on just being where I am and not always looking for the next improvement or next goal.
Are you a resolution maker or do you chose a word for the year? Or do you just keep on keepin’ on?

    1. Happy 2018 Paige!
I love how you actually have a smaller minimal closet and wear your amazing clothes many ways all the time!
I got away from that this fall after having a baby and need to admit I veered off my course, sell some new items I just don’t/ won’t wear and get my closet back smaller!
Also I think you and Andrea should come up with a stylish Mom hashtag!
Best wishes to you and your family for the new year! Xo!

      1. Jodie,
Happy New Year! How is life with a newborn treating you? I think the postpartum phase is so hard because of the weird in between sizes. I also found I wore styles that weren’t totally ‘me’, but that I felt were most flattering to my postpartum figure and nursing friendly.
And that’s a great idea 🙂 Any clever hashtags you can think of?!
Have a great week and thanks for saying hi!

    1. You always look so put-together and everything fits so well! Can I ask where your leather-wrap bracelet (Christmas Eve post) is from? I like that it’s both thin and substantial!

      1. Krystal,
Thank you so much! It does finally feel like, after a few years of working on it, my wardrobe is cohesive and representative of a style I am comfortable wearing. The bracelet is actually an old watch that I got from Simple Addiction maybe? A year or so ago I was about to purge it when I realized the watch face just slipped off and I could wear the band as a bracelet. Sorry I’m not much help! Nickel and Suede sells some cute leather bracelets.

Have a great end of the week,

    1. Love this round up! I agree with the first commenter, you have so many elements working in your favor, haircut, workout routine and personal style. You look fabulous! Also, you’re making me crush on that b/w T sweater! 😟
