This was the first week of the 20 item, 21 day Mini Capsule Challenge and so far so good! It’s really a mentally freeing feeling to be able to walk into my closet and be able to just pick and outfit. Everything mixes and matches and layers perfectly together. I have already worn a few items twice and you know what? I’m okay with that. More than ok. It feels so good knowing I’m getting regular use out of my favorite items and really getting my money’s worth from them.
Here’s a recap of the week:
After a little too many snack during the Super Bowl last night (yay, Broncos!), I was feeling a bit bloated, so I opted for some oversized layers 🙂 I have worn this blush turtleneck sweater with these jeans before, so I added an extra layer today to switch it up just a bit. I think you’ll find that’s the theme a lot during this 21 day challenge.
I had a half day at school, then a half day meeting at the Ed Center today. I had the black jeans and chambray shirt on originally, then at the last minute added the striped tee (using some of my lessons of layering from last week) to add that extra third item and really pull the outfit together. I love the way it turned out! I love that on day 2 I already created a look I wouldn’t have thought of with a bigger wardrobe.
I’ve been carrying this Lily Jade Shaylee bag both to work and on weekends. I have the insert totally stocked and on weekends I pull out my planner and laptop I carry to and from work and snap in the diaper bag insert and it’s good to go. I love the simplicity. I imagine carrying this bag forever.
Almost 70 degrees just a week after having a snow day?! That’s that I love about Colorado. I decided to take advantage of the warmer day and wear my flats and a t-shirt. I did add the faux leather jacket, but only as outerwear to work. I love that the simplicity of this outfit allows my Natalie Borton necklace and leopard print bracelet and shoes make the statement. This tee from Brass clothing is super soft and falls so nicely. Definitely size up if you don’t want a fitted tee – this is the XL!
I think I’ve mentioned before that I love the blazer and tee look, but what I’m struggling with is how to make it look any different than a blazer and a tee? This time I went with the bootcut jeans to create a more professional, yet comfortable look for a long night of Parent-Teacher Conferences. I love the look, but I’m stumped on how to make it look different while using the same pieces? Any ideas?
It was a heck of a night in my household last night. I went to bed around 10 and by 10:15 my oldest was up crying with an earache. Poor kid was miserable and I knew it was bad because he rarely cries. We tried Tylenol, drops, bath, warm washcloth, and nothing helped. Finally, at 1:30 my hubby took him downstairs to distract him with TV until he dozed off on the couch. I slept until about 3:30 when Brynn woke up, then I squeezed in another hour before it was time to get up for the day. My husband slept downstairs on a chair for just a couple of hours. He’s staying home with Max today, so I hope they both get a good nap.
Today is a Teacher Inservice Day, so meetings and curriculum writing in the morning and working on my National Board videos and paper in the afternoon. It’s all about being comfortable today, so it’s a perfect day for my leggings and a long tee. I had planned to wear a striped tee, but it was dirty from Tuesday, so plain gray and chambray again! 🙂
This outfit is definitely nothing special or creative and I considered adding a cardigan or scarf, but it all felt too fussy for this mom-brain today. So my trusty bar necklace is it. The only accessory I want is a cup of coffee! A big one.
Overall, I really like Tuesday’s layers and I’m very excited about the addition of the gray skinny jeans into my capsule to break up the dark bottoms. To those of you doing the mini capsule challenge – how was week one?
