Here’s a recap of the outfits I wore during week two of my winter capsule.
When December gives you temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s, you take advantage and wear dresses and skirts like I did this week. Monday I wore my favorite Brass shirt dress with a pair of sweater knit tights. I realized I don’t have any shoes that look good with tights, so I added the burgundy booties at the last minute, thinking they looked better than my brown booties. I didn’t end up loving it with the boots, but I’ll try the look again with a different pair of shoes/boots soon.
Oh wow, how great does it feel to wear pants that fit!? I’ve been either wearing maternity pants (which I constantly had to pull up because of the belly panel) or squeezing into the few prepregnancy pants that I can get on, but that feel horrible. I decided it was time to buy a size up so that I could ditch the maternity pants and it feels so good! I didn’t want to spend much since I’m hoping it’s a temporary size change, so I ordered these dark wash bootcut jeans from Thred Up and I LOVE them!
I’ve sent a few bags into Thred Up during my closet cleanout, so I was able to buy these $15 GAP jeans with credits, so they cost nothing. I also ordered a pair of cropped skinny jeans with these, but they were WAY too tight. It’s so frustrating that two pants in the same size can fit so differently (they were different brands, but still!) Luckily, Thred Up does accept returns for 14 days. Use this link to get a $20 when you order from Thred Up. I have been so happy with my purchases from there.
Anyway, I loved this outfit – it really felt like I accomplished my goal of being styled yet effortless and casual with this one.
Another warm day in Colorado! I knew I wanted to wear this skirt and I had envisioned wearing my gray cable knit sweater with it, but when I put it on I knew I’d be too hot and that I wanted to save the look for a colder day.
I like how the slouchy style of the tops makes the outfit feel a bit more casual, and I’m happy with how the layered tees look (I’m going to do a series soon on how to “style up” your outfits using tricks like layering). I don’t usually think to layer too of the same type of tee, so I’m glad the capsule forced me try it! This is another outfit success in my book!
I love the graphite metal on this Kendra Scott necklace I bought from my Rockbox set – it’s perfect for pairing with grays! Try Rocksbox free with code STYLETHISLIFEXOXO.
Last week I wore my black skinny jeans and was thinking about doing a little self-destruction on them. I’ve been hesitant to do that because I like to wear them to work and I wanted to keep them professional looking. But….I also didn’t like them that much in terms of styling. Since I have my black jersey leggings to be my comfy, black work pant, and I have 2 pair of black skinnies (not sure why I still had these, but it worked out) I decided to take the scissors to my black jeans last weekend and I am soooo glad I did!!
I love them! I chopped the bottoms off since the frayed hem seems to be pretty trendy and I added a few simple cuts to the knees and now I’ll let time (and the washing machine) do their magic! I think the distressed denim definitely makes the outfit a bit more styled casual, which is what I’m going for. I’m lucky that Colorado (and my school) is so casual, so I can get away with this at work.
Today was a dedicated Flannel Friday at our school. Since I wore my blue (school color) buffalo check flannel last week I decided to go with the red for today.
And, as a surprise bonus look this week, Miss Liv is showing us her favorite Frozen nightgown. She chose to wear the pajamas as a dress to school, so she added some leggings and striped socks for extra warmth and some fun print mixing! 😉
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Many items are old, but here are some similar styles at reasonable price points.
