Winter Capsule: Week 8 Recap

Another Friday already?! And the first month of 2016 is already over?!

I hope you all had a happy and healthy week. Between all of the kids out at school and the sicknesses going around daycare, there is something in the air. Brynn is home sick today because she has a fever, runny nose, and cough. Fingers crossed it doesn’t turn into anything worse and spread to the rest of the family.

I am so excited about the response to the Mini Capsule Challenge! I love that so many of you are wiling and excited to give it a try. I will admit that including shoes and whittling down even more is a bit scary, but then I remind myself it’s only 3 weeks and all of my shoes can come back out. 😉 My hope is that I figure out a bit more about what items I gravitate toward. The smaller number leaves less room for “extras” that I don’t actually need. I’m thinking of the flannel shirts and moto jacket that I felt I should include, but never chose to wear.

So here is what I wore this week…

Monday

This is a pretty simple and straightforward look, but that’s what I love about it. It’s easy and classic and the ankle boots and necklace make it feel a little more modern. As of a few weeks ago I hadn’t worn the blazer much, but I’ve been making more of an effort to remember it because it’s one of my favorite looks.

Tuesday:

This sweater. I love the sweater – the print, the stripes, the little bit of red. What I don’t love is that I can’t think of too many options for styling it. The crew neck collar seems boring without the added layer (maybe because of my short hair?), but I can’t think of anything else to go under it besides a chambray. I thought I could wear my red plaid, but that felt too Christmas-y. I don’t know how much place it has in a capsule as it isn’t the most versatile piece. Or, am I missing something else I could do with it?

Wednesday:

This was a look I pulled together at the last second when I didn’t feel like wearing the skirt I had planned on. I like the way it turned out and I’m glad I added the leopard shoes instead of going with ankle boots. I am kind of sick of my black pants, so I wore jeans for the third day in a row. Capsule lesson learned – don’t include too many black pants.

Thursday:

For some reason I have been neglecting this gray tulip cut sweater, so I made it a priority to wear it this week. I also wanted to wear this new necklace from Natalie Borton and a simple gray top was the perfect background.

Friday:

Today was the big debate of the tuck. Does anyone else do this? I swear I changed how I tucked and buttoned this shirt 1000 times this morning. And then once more when I got to school!

I ended up wearing it open and untucked. This shirt is a boyfriend style, so it feels a bit bulky when tucked in. I tried some kind of cool half-tuck, but it just didn’t work for me. I think I need to master the casual half-tuck! 🙂

I am much happier with my outfits this week after a few weeks of feeling a little off with my clothes. Maybe it’s because I didn’t try the camel cardigan! 😉 I don’t even know that I can pick a favorite, though Friday’s is my least favorite. I’ve said it before, but I just don’t think I’m a plaid flannel kind of gal. I have this one solely to mix up my casual Friday school spirit wear.

What do you all think – any wins or fails this week? You always have such great input!

    1. Love Tuesday’s outfit! I like the look of the chambray against the dark jeans and of course the sweater?

      1. Thank you, Liz!! It’s interesting how I think the chambray layer totally makes the outfit. I appreciate your feedback☺

    1. I like the second picture of Friday’s outfit the best of the 4. You look good with the front tucked. It’s a hard look to get used to. For me it feels half dressed, but I like it on other people.

      1. I started the day like that, but by the end just had it untucked. It’s hard to keep a tuck looking good while moving around and teaching and writing on the board all day!?

    1. You could try a blouse with shirttails underneath your sweater… And I want to see the back of your gray sweater!

      1. Thank you, Ali! I have been neglecting that sweater and I don’t know why…I love it too! Hope you had a great weekend!

      1. Thank you, Gemma! For some reason I keep skipping over it, but it’s a perfect weight for spring too, so plenty of time to still wear it.
        Thanks for reading!
